A year’s focus on “personal power” and “courage” seemed like it might be the one year, out of seven, I could coast. This isn’t the case. I am someone with a level of awareness of my personal power and consider some of my past actions, like running away from my abusive home, as courageous. During year three I’ve been learning the nuances of this power and the subtleties of courage. It was also a year of many protests, from Prop 8 to HIV budget cuts.
I was approached by Lethe Press to publish Inheritance. This poetry collection, unlike the previous, is only autobiographical work. There is a vulnerability in exposing our past, especially our emotions, weaknesses, wants, and shortcomings. There’s more in the book than those qualities but those are the ones that scare me the most.
Courage
This chakra is known as the power chakra, located in the solar plexus. It rules our personal power, will, and autonomy, as well as our metabolism. When healthy, this chakra brings us energy, effectiveness, spontaneity, and non-dominating power.
